Elnor Hilty

Elnor grew up in the Cleveland, Ohio area and began her painting career in 1968 as a hobby.  In her early years she studied with many well known artists: Franklin Bates, Fred Leach, Lowell Ellsworth Smith, Marc Moon, Franklin Jones, Don Stone and others.  She participated in many Ohio art shows giving her painting time to grow both in quality and popularity.

In 1978 Elnor began traveling with her artist husband, Robert W. Hilty, eleven months out of the year, painting, showing and selling her work throughout the eastern half of the U.S.  Since 1984, Elnor and Bob have lived in Huron, Ohio on the shore of Lake Erie, painting for the galleries which carry their work as well as doing commission pieces for collectors.  Elnor is represented by the Christina Gallery on Martha's Vineyard; Art of the Sea Galleries, South Thomaston and Rockland, Maine; Cottage Collection, Huron, Ohio; the Armory Gallery, Port Clinton, Ohio and other galleries and art shops in Ohio.

Elnor is best known for her soft, sensitive, beach and nautical scenes.  With a real love of shore lines, she not only thoroughly enjoys painting them, but all the related subjects as well: colorful shells, wheeling gulls, shorebirds, tidal pools, fishing shacks children and mothers on the beach, lighthouses, etc.  Elnor worked exclusively in watercolor for many years, but has been doing over half of her work in oils and alkyds in a more impressionistic style the last eight years.  She tries always to focus peoples' attention on the beauty of God's creation.
Elnor has produced and published 21 limited edition prints, most of which are sold out.  She has shown her work in many juried or invitational shows and has had nine two person shows in galleries along with her husband.
